Francesco Battistello: At The Wunderwall Antwerp

Mar 29 - May 4, 2025
Overview

In Francesco Battistello's pictorial research, we witness a rediscovery and reworking of the immaterial heritage, made up of images, stories, and archetypes, that have nourished, composed, and developed human thought and history over the centuries. The subjects of his works resemble glimpses of a tale, mythology or an ancient painting. An interest in the relationship with pictorial matter is at the heart of the artist's research. Sometimes he interrogates it as one used to do with the entrails of animals in order to predict the future, sometimes, as an archaeologist he excavates it, reconstructs it, gives voice to what was once forgotten, and to which he himself attempts to deepen through his work.

After obtaining an MA in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, Francesco Battistello moved to Belgium where he attended ENSAV La Cambre and obtained a second MA in painting. He currently lives and works in Brussels.
